Audi has just launched the top-of-the-line R8 V10 Plus Coupe in the Indian market, at a starting price of INR 2.06 crore. This flagship Audi sportscar sits at the pinnacle of the German company’s range, and is the fastest, most powerful model in the company’s line-up.
The main talking point of the new Audi R8 V10 Plus Coupe is the V10 FSI petrol engine, which pumps out 550 PS of power. This engine is derived from the V10 powerplant which powers the Lamborghini Gallardo. With this engine, the R8 is capable of getting to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 317 km/h.
The R8 is not a new model, having been around for a few years now, but Audi has improved upon it both inside and out. The new R8 V10 gets a slightly reshaped front grille, painted in matte black. The gearshift paddles on the steering column are larger too, making them easier to operate. Audi has not lost focus on making the R8 more luxurious on the inside either, and this car has a high-end Bang & Olufsen stereo too.
With this latest market introduction, Audi has bared its fangs. The supercar market is growing strongly in India, albeit on a very low base, and Audi wants to capitalise on the heavy-spending new rich. The Audi R8 might not have the brand image of something like a Lamborghini Gallardo, but it has as much performance with the V10, and is arguably as well built. For value seeking customers, the Audi R8, which is more than 20 % cheaper, could seem like an absolute bargain.
